It was a reversal of fortunes earlier tonight as the Twins’ opponent jumped out to an early lead and the team itself had to play catch up. However, their comeback could not gain full steam and they fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Oakland.
The Twins’ offense was stymied for most of the game as they could not get any runs across. Down 3-0 in the 8th, they finally broke through. Joe Mauer hit an RBI triple and later scored on an error, but that was it for the comeback. Nick Blackburn turned in a solid outing, going 8 innings and giving up those 3 runs, but the offense couldn’t back him up and he ended up with the loss.
This is the kind of game that could have set up the comeback the Twins have pulled off numerous times this season. But alas, it was not to be and the team must regroup and try to win the series. Every game is important for the rest of the season as the Twins battle for the AL Central.
