Twins 3, Yankees 1 (53-43)
For the second straight game, Twins’ pitchers held the opposition to just a single run in a low scoring win. This time it was Frank Viola who provided the quality pitching on the mound. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in eight innings of work. Jeff Reardon threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his 20th save of the season.
All three Twins runs came via the long ball. Kent Hrbek put the Twins on the board in the first inning with a two run homer and then Kirby Puckett belted a solo homerun in the win.
