Rookie Les Straker improved to 2-0 with 5 2/3 shutout innings against the Yankees. He gave up just two hits with three walks and he struck out two. Juan Berenguer and Jeff Reardon closed out the game to complete the shutout and Reardon picked up his eighth save of the season.
Al Newman was the hitting star. He went two for three with a double and he drove in both the Twins two runs.
