Looking to put some separation between themselves and the White Sox, the Twins had their eyes set on a win against the Royals. Yet for the 2nd straight game, the offense couldn’t get going and the team lost 4-2.
The Twins were able to strike 1st, getting an RBI double from Brendan Harris in the 2nd and a Joe Mauer sac fly in the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. However, they had a number of opportunities to score more runs, but just couldn’t finish it off. They grounded into 4 double plays, each coming in a crucial situation. Starter Glen Perkins was able to hold the Royals to just 1 run over 5 innings, but things didn’t go so well for the bullpen, which surrendered 3 runs and allowed the Royals to win the game.
With the White Sox losing as well, the Twins are still a half game ahead of them. There are a myriad of scenarios that could play out tomorrow depending on whether the two teams win or lose, but suffice to say, the Twins want to end the regular season on a high note with a win and that’s what they’ll concentrate on doing.
