It might have been the frustration of losing last night or the team’s recent struggles or even that the bats all got hot at once. Whatever the cause was the Twins got a big 12-2 win over the Athletics.
The Twins got it started early, scoring 6 runs in the 2nd inning and never looking back. A majority of their offense came from the heart of their lineup. Joe Mauer had 5 hits and 4 RBIs, while Justin Morneau had 4 hits, including 2 doubles, and an RBI. Perhaps just as important was the performance of starter Kevin Slowey. He went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, but got 10 strikeouts. He is continuing to be a great starter and someone the Twins will rely heavily on down the stretch.
It was a great offensive night and one that certainly has boosted the team’s spirits. Though they have struggled of late, the road trip is not over yet and they still have time to get some winning momentum going and carry themselves to the postseason.
