The Twins tried to clinch the series win tonight, but instead were bowled over to the extreme in an incredibly lopsided 19-3 loss to the Tigers. The pitching was shaky all night long and the team made several mistakes that the Tigers capitalized on to score their runs.
The team was doing fine in the beginning, coming back from down 2-0 to tie it up in the 3rd. Rookie Matt Macri singled to lead off the inning, then after he stole 2nd, Alexi Casilla hit a 2 run blast for the temporary tie. The team would get another run in the 4th, when Macri hit an RBI single to drive in Delmon Young.
Boof Bonser had yet another horrid start, giving up 9 total runs and the bullpen wasn’t any better. It just seemed like every pitch they threw the Tigers hit. It has to be somewhat demoralizing for the Twins pitchers to go through something like that, especially Bonser, who hasn’t gotten a win in what seems like forever. The team also made several fielding mistakes that compounded the pitching woes.
It was just one of those nights where nothing goes right, a game that may only happen a few times a season in all of baseball. The Twins have to see it that way, as a rarity, if they hope to move forward. Though they have to feel disappointed in themselves, they must pick each other up and come back tomorrow ready to get the series win. Perhaps the Tigers used up all their offensive prowess tonight and won’t have anything left for tomorrow.
