The Twins were hoping to get back on the winning track tonight and it was a tense game in the early going with little offense, but the Twins let the lead slip away from them and eventually lost in extra innings to the Seattle Mariners 4-2.
The 2 runs the Twins were able to score were driven in by Alexi Casilla and Delmon Young. The latter had a good night, with 2 hits and a stolen base. However, not only did the team let the game slip away, the offense left 11 men on base and squandered a few chances with runners in scoring position.
Francisco Liriano continued to pitch well, going 6 strong innings, giving up only one run. With a 2-1 lead in the 9th, Joe Nathan came in to get the save. However, he wasn’t automatic like he usually is, and he gave up the run that pushed the game into extra innings. Jesse Crain gave up the decisive hit, a 2 run homer to Adrian Beltre in the 11th that won it for Seattle.
It was a game of missed opportunities for the Twins, as they had plenty of chances to put the game away, but couldn’t capitalize. With the end of the season so near and the team so close to the AL Central lead, the team can ill afford to let this losing streak go on any further.
