It was almost the same type of game as the one on Thursday for the Twins. They jumped out to a lead, but could not hold it and lost in the 9th, 3-2. However, the loss came from a very unexpected source.
The only runs of the game for the Twins came from a Denard Span 2 run homer in the 5th. Francisco Liriano turned in a great start, going 7 strong, giving up only 1 run and fanning 6. However, it was all decided in the 9th. With the lead, the Twins called on Joe Nathan. He wasn’t automatic like is expected to be, and his throwing error led to 2 runs scoring and the As winning.
It was a disappointing end to a game that the Twins were hoping could be a stepping stone to more success. Even more of a downer was Nathan’s blown save, especially since most of the time he can shut it down. The saving grace is that the White Sox also lost, so the Twins are still a half game behind them for the AL Central.
