Twins swept by Indians

by @ 11:07 pm. Filed under 2008 Twins

The Twins were hoping to get something out of their series with the Indians, having lost the 1st 2 games, and wanted to avoid the sweep. However, they were unable to accomplish that, as more mistakes doomed them to a 6-4 loss to Cleveland.

Tonight’s game already seemed tough considering the Twins were facing Cliff Lee, a contender for the AL Cy Young. Still the team was able to get some runs off of him, scoring twice in the 1st 4 innings. They got through once again off Lee with 2 more runs in the 7th, courtesy of Justin Morneau and Delmon Young. But they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity to take the lead.

The long ball continued to haunt Twins starters with Scott Baker being the latest victim, giving up 2 solo shots in the 4th and he would also give up 2 more runs in the 5th. With the Twins still in the game, the bullpen was unable to help out, with Matt Geurrier giving up the decisive runs in the 7th.

A disappointing end to a disappointing series has the Twins reeling a bit. This is not the place they wanted to be with so few games left in the season. They must now head to Tampa Bay for a tough series that could very well determine where they finish the season.
