The margin of error for the Twins in the AL Central race is slowly dwindling as the number of games left decreases. They need to start winning in order to stay in the race, but couldn’t accomplish that in a 7-2 loss in Tampa Bay earlier today.
The Twins’ offense got going but wasn’t able to put enough runs across. In the 4th, with the bases loaded and no outs, a missed call led to a double play that was followed by a flyout to end the inning. The 2 runs the Twins put up were too little too late to come back against the Rays. Kevin Slowey went 4 1/3 innings, surrendering 5 runs, continuing the struggles of the rotation. The bullpen also gave up 2 solo home runs.
It is obvious the Twins have to improve and improve very soon and one place that can start is with the pitching. Though young, the rotation has generally been a strength throughout the season and if they can get quality innings out of their starters, it improves the team’s chances that much more.
