The Twins were looking to bounce back after a very tough series against the Yankees. They viewed the game earlier tonight as a way to put the losing behind them. However, they could not accomplish that and fell to the Indians 5-4.
As if the loss wasn’t bad enough, Carlos Gomez had to be carted off the field in the 1st inning after making a catch and crashing into the outfield wall. The Twins were only able to get 2 runs against Indians starter Cliff Lee. However, they charged back after he left. Justin Morneau hit a 2 run blast to make it a 1 run game, but the team couldn’t finish the job.
The Indians jumped out ahead due to an uneven performance by Livan Hernandez. He couldn’t seem to get his pitches where he wanted them early on and surrendered 5 runs, however he did settle down and ended up pitching a complete game.
The immediate concern for the Twins is how serious Gomez’s injury is, but they do have the depth to cover for him. The other concern is breaking this losing streak. There’s not much they can do, except go out and keep doing what’s been getting them wins all season.
